3 Tips For Taking Your First Motorcycle Road Trip

Spread the love

If you love to travel and experience the world in new and exciting ways, you’ve probably already taken a few road trips in your lifetime. However, if you’re looking to spice things up and really get in touch with how an area looks and feels, there’s no better way to do that than to take a road trip on a motorcycle. But if you’ve never taken a trip like this, you might not be sure how to road trip on a motorcycle safely and adequately prepare for this endeavor. So to help make this whole process a little easier on you, here are three tips for taking your first motorcycle road trip.

Learn How To Get Comfortable

Before you spend hours and hours each day road tripping on a motorcycle, you’re first going to want to get comfortable being on a bike for an extended period of time. Taking your motorcycle around town is a lot different than taking it across the country, so you’re going to want to prepare your body and your mind for this. As part of this preparation, Collin Woodward, a contributor to CheatSheet.com, recommends that you learn how to get comfortable on your ride. This might mean installing an aftermarket seat that gives you a little more cushion or putting on a back rest. Your body can get trashed really quickly if you don’t take care of it when riding a motorcycle, so make sure you make this a priority.

Insure your Bike
It doesn’t matter if you are a bike enthusiast, a casual rider, or if this is your first ride, you need to insure your motorbike. This is very crucial as mishaps can happen anytime, unpredicted. While you may save yourself with protective gear like a helmet, gloves, and other similar equipment, the bike can get damaged. If the bike is insured, however, you wouldn’t have to break the bank to cover the repair costs.

Get A Spare Key Ready

The last thing you want to have to experience when on your motorcycle road trip is being stranded in a place that you don’t know with people that you’ve never met. To keep this from happening to you on your trip, you should make a copy of the key to your motorcycle so you have a spare one, just in case. According to the American Motorcyclist Association and BuffaloChip.com, you should either find a place in your bike when you can zip-tie or duct tape your spare key. If you’re traveling with friends, you can just leave your spare key with one of them.

Keep Your Packs Light

Being on the road for a long time means that you’re going to have to pack enough stuff for your entire trip. But when you’re on a motorcycle, space is pretty limited. So rather than having to weigh down your motorcycle with overloaded saddle bags, Esurance.com recommends that you try to keep your packs light by planning to buy some of the non-essentials whenever you need them. This will help you conserve space and get better gas mileage but not having such a heavy bike.

If you’re considering taking your first motorcycle road trip soon, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you plan and prepare for this adventure.
