Spread the love

When going to a foreign country, it’s important to make sure that you stay out of trouble as much as possible.  Since you’re far away from home and may not be familiar with the local laws and customs, it’s essential to avoid finding yourself in a sticky situation which could potentially ruin your trip.

Traveling in different locations is a wonderful opportunity to explore new ways of life and keep your mind open to different ideas.  You can make sure your international travels a wonderful experience, by avoiding the following things when in another country.

Disobeying Traffic Laws

A lot of travelers make the mistake of assuming that the same laws from home apply in the different country which they’re in.  However, this isn’t the case. Many places have laws which are entirely different from their own country, particularly when it comes to traffic laws.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with the local laws before you get behind in the wheel.  Otherwise, you could find yourself in a car accident in a strange place wondering what to do next.

Disrespecting The Culture

Even though you may believe that all cultures should have the same fundamental rules and values, it doesn’t work that way.  Some cultures clash with others, and it’s important to respect them even though you may disagree with them.

Going to countries which have strict dress code policies, for example, and blatantly going against them could create a potential uproar and in some cases may even be breaking the law.

It’s important to ask yourself if it’s really worth facing potential jail time just to prove a point. You’re better off erring on the side of caution so that you don’t spoil your trip.

Getting Too Drunk

Even though vacations are often associated with drinking and partying, being too drunk can be a recipe for disaster.   Not only are you less aware of your social behavior when you’re drunk, but you may also even hurt yourself by falling or getting into an accident.

Try to be sensible when consuming alcohol in a foreign country and don’t lose your ability to be aware in case you’re in danger.

Wander In Unsafe Areas

You should avoid wandering around in places which aren’t recommended for tourists to go to.  Often your concierge or local guides will tell you which areas are best being avoided. If it’s a grey area and you aren’t sure if where you’re wandering around in is safe, try to use your best judgment.

Usually relying on your intuition is an effective tool.  It’s always better to be safe than sorry, particularly when you fear you may be a target for crime.
